Ready to change the game?

If you've missed one of our popular gamification classes at Stanford, here's your chance to learn about gamification for training & learning. In this new course, you'll learn how to analyze popular games for the elements that make them work, make them fun, and make them perfect for your learning challenges.

In this highly interactive workshop, you'll play, design, and test more than 10 unique game mechanics – giving you an insider's view into how to incorporate them into your next learning challenge.

You'll also have the opportunity to apply your learning to up to 5 distinct learning challenges that you're facing now, giving you a jumpstart on applying your learning in the real world.

We also believe that fun is a key driver for learning – so we'll have a lot of it along the way. This isn't a boring "death by PowerPoint" course. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and get gaming.

Finally, we'll share success stories (and a couple failures) about how we've specifically incorporated games into our practice at companies like Virgin Orbit, Virgin America, SAP, Lyft, and more.

The Teaching Team

Laura Pickel

Laura (course co-designer) has spent the past several years understanding the role design thinking and creative processes can and should play in workplaces. She does this both through her job at Lyft as a Learning Experience designer and the classes she teaches at the Stanford d.school, such as Building Creative Cultures in the Workplace and Organizational Psychology of Design Thinking.

Because she enjoys filling her time with meaningful work, she also works for IDEOU as a teaching team lead on their Leading for Creativity and Designing for Change courses. She is a graduate of Williams College and the Learning, Design, and Technology program at the Stanford Graduate School of Education.

Jesse Harris, SPHR

Jesse (instructor & course co-designer) is a Director of People at Virgin Orbit, where he leads the Learning & Development, Recognition, and Engagementprograms for Sir Richard Branson's rocket company. He also teaches classes and workshops for Stanford Continuing Studies and the Stanford d.school. He specializes in program design and development and transforming boring events into memorable experiences. He also crossed off a big bucket list item by winning big on the Price is Right.

Jesse earned a master’s in Learning, Design, and Technologyfrom the Stanford Graduate School of Education, a graduate certificate in entrepreneurship from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, a bachelor’s in Anthropology from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a Gallup-certified Strengths Coach, and received accreditation as a Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) in 2009.

Jesse brings his in-house experience leading Talent and HR teams at Virgin America, Alaska Airlines, Virgin Orbit, and Texas’ largest private employer, H-E-B. He has taught classes and workshops for Stanford, UTSA, and the Chief Learning Officer executive forum. He was named one of the 50 Top Leaders in Learning & Development – Americas by Corinium.

FAQs

How long do I have access to the course?

You'll have as much time as you need to complete the class. After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course (including unlimited logins) across any and all devices you own.

Who should take this class?

Anyone interested in designing games and activities to impact learning, change, or motivation would benefit from this class. While we specifically target instructional designers, HR professionals, and program designers, many managers, executives, and coaches have found this to be a helpful course. We have taught the same course to product and service designers, engineers, artists, and everyone in between – and all to rave reviews!

When does the course start and finish?

The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.

Do I need to be a "gamer" to learn from this course?

Absolutely not! We're hardly what you'd consider  traditional "gamers" ourselves, but we do enjoy using the mechanics of what make games interesting to design better experiences. However, if you absolutely LOATHE playing games (and who hates games, right?), then this course might not be for you.

Isn't gamification just a buzzword? Why should I attend?

We designed this course in part because we were highly skeptical of the overused "gamificaiton" buzzword. Our course focuses on analysis and application of game mechanics and applies those to real-world challenges. At the end of this course, you'll be able to analyze any game for its potential in learning, you'll have designed 5+ prototype games for use in your organization, and you'll walk away with cheat sheets, activities, and supplemental materials to reference and share with others your organization.

What if I am unhappy with the course?

We would never want you to be unhappy! If you have completed the course and are unsatisfied in any way, contact us (courses@myjobis.fun) in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.

Do you offer a discount for group enrollments?

Yes! If you'd like to register 5 or more participants for your organization, please e-mail us at courses@myjobis.fun for volume pricing.
